Story from Kalmana AFSA, Bauchi
The Bauchi State chapter of the Nigerian league of Women voters (NILOWV), says it will do all it takes to ensure women secure elective positions across all levels in the forthcoming 2023 General Election.
The State Chairperson of the League, Hajiya Fatima Zakari, gave the assurance during a one-day capacity building and physical interaction held for elective position aspirants ahead of 2023 polls in Bauchi organised by the league with support from Action Aid Nigeria.
Hajiya Fatima briefed the participants that the league has the mandate to help women actualise their political dreams and aspirations despite the challenges that the arena poses.
The State coordinator who lamented the fact that there are no female representatives currently in the Bauchi state house of Assembly and the National Assembly stressed that these narratives must be reversed so that women can contribute favourably.
Also, Hajiya Lami Geidam, a member of the Federation of Muslim Women’s Associations in Nigeria (FOMWAN), in a statement titled “Women in Politics way Forward” advised women to shun rivalry, backbiting and envy because these will only hinder eligible women from being proactive in politics and charge the development course of the nation.
A participant who spoke on behalf of the others appreciates the NILOWV for the gesture and urge them to sustain the Campaign.
NILOWV says it will continue to support any female Politician regardless of Party Affiliation.
