The Emir of Askira, Alhaji Abdullahi Ibn Askirama II has vowed in spite of the security challenges in the North East to do everything within his limit in ensuring that his people live peacefully and continue with their farming activities without any fear of threats from Boko Haram terrorists.
The Emir who is a master’s degree graduate in law succeeded his late father, His Highness Alhaji Muhammadu Askirama I, the second emir of Askira when his grandfather late Maimaina died after ruling for a very long time. Maimaina was posted to Askira from Damboa as a Chief, in what was a punishment for his insubordination to the then Shehu of Borno.
At the time of filing this report, Askira town is agog with prominent personalities across the country especially Emirs and politicians who were there to be part of the ceremony marking the 10th year anniversary of the coronation of Abdullahi IBN Askirama II, while others were there as a mark of respect to the Late Emir, the very powerful king Muhammadu Askirama I.
In his speech at the occasion, the deputy speaker of Borno State House of Assembly and Garkuwan Askira, Engineer Abdullahi Musa on behalf of the Askira Emirates and other well-wishers commended the Emir for his sterling qualities, describing him as a man of peace, vision, courage and humility, under him, he noted Askira is one Local Government that is yet to be overrun by Boko Haram fighters.
He, therefore, solicit for the cooperation of all and sundry to continue supporting the Emir who is not only highly educated but well exposed. Abdullahi IBN Askirama was a former executive secretary legal, Jos film corporation and later a federal permanent secretary, for him to continue rendering selfless service to the people of the Emirate, prayers and other festivities were observed to mark the occasion, which was peacefully conducted.
