Kebbi introduces new tax regime for individual and corporate bodies

Kebbi State government is to review the state tax laws by introducing a new tax regime as the state targets eight hundred million Naira (800 million Naira) internally generated revenue in the year twenty twenty-two.

The Executive Chairman, Kebbi State Board of Internal Revenue, Alhaji Iliyasu Arzika Jega, made this known while briefing newsmen in Birnin Kebbi.

Alhaji Arziki Jega, said since the creation of the state in the last 30 years, levies and taxes law had not been reviewed until now noting that the new tax regime was introduced with due consideration to the economic capabilities of the people of the state.

The Executive Chairman, explains that tax officials of the board had embarked on a study tour to the neighbouring states in order to come up with not only an acceptable tax regime but also a workable tax template for the state.

Alhaji Jega added that owing to the outbreak of COVID-19 pandemic last year, the state had suspended all forms of tax for a year as a palliative for the citizens saying, by this month the palliative had expired and that it is on this note that, the Chairman is calling on the people of the state to cooperate with the government for easy implementation of the revised tax rates.

According to him, a development levy is now N200 as against N100, permit for building Filling Station that was N50,000 is now N100,000, Industrial Plot in the state capital, is now N50,000 per hectare as against N20,000 and permit for building Private School that was N5,000 is now N50,000 among others.

The new tax regime would be effected from September, 1st this year.
