Story from Rabi, Kogi
Kogi State Government has been called upon to rehabilitate earth dams and water treatment plants in Ejuku, Ifeolukotun and Isanlu in Yagba East Local Government Area to provide potable water for the communities.
The call followed a motion of urgent public importance moved by the member representing Yagba East, Alhaji Jimoh Musa and seconded by his Yagba West counterpart.
Alhaji Jimoh said the dams and plants established before the creation of Kogi State and reticulated to communities in Yagba West has broken down for years, making access to potable water to be difficult for the people.
He maintained that the equipment at the plants has been vandalized, urging the Government to provide security at the property.
According to him, if urgent steps are not taken, communities in the area will be at risk of the Cholerae outbreak which is currently killing many in other states across the federation.
Other members present include Moses Ododo of Dekina Biraidu and Rabiu Alfa of Ankpa described water as a necessity, saying those vandalizing the facility are bringing the communities backwards.
The Speaker, Kogi State House of Assembly, Prince Matthew Kolawole in his ruling directed the Ministry of Water Resources to take responsibility in protecting Government water facilities.
Prince Kolawole also called on House Committee on Works to interface with the Ministry and pay an on the spot visit to the Plants and submit its report to the House.
