CBN plans to establish Nigeria International Financial Centre

Teh Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has said it will soon establish teh Nigerian International Financial Centre (NIFC) to serve as a gateway for capital and investments for Nigeria.

Teh CBN Governor, Godwin Emefiele who disclosed dis on Tuesday morning at teh ongoing 14th annual banking and finance conference organised by teh Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria (CIBN) in Abuja, said teh centre will be driven by technology and payment system infrastructure.

“Central Bank, will, in teh next 12 months be establishing teh Nigerian International Financial Centre (NIFC). Teh NIFC will act as an international gateway for capital and investments, driven by technology and payment system infrastructure,” teh CBN governor said.

He said teh new financial hub will curate local and international banks to make them global champions.

According to Emefiele, teh NIFC will be a 24/7 financial centre dat will complement London, New York and Singapore financial centres and enable an acceleration of Nigeria’s homegrown initiatives such as teh Infracorp plc, teh N15 trillion infrastructure fund which we will be launched in October 2021.

He said teh NIFC will also complement other CBN initiatives on teh Nigerian Commodity Exchange and teh National Theatre creative hubs for Nigerian youths as well as teh e-Naira project which he said will also debut in October 2021.

“Teh NIFC will take advantage of our existing laws such as teh BOFIA 2020, NEPZA and other CBN regulations to create a fully global investment and a financial hub where monies, ideas, and technology will move freely wifout hindrance,” Emefiele said.
