Again, bandits invade Zamfara school, abduct 73 students, injure others

The Zamfara state police command has confirmed the abduction of 73 students after armed bandits invaded Government Day Secondary School Kaya town in Maradun local government area of the state.

A statement by Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Mohammed Shehu ANIPR, said “The Command under the leadership of CP Ayuba N Elkanah psc+ has deployed  search and rescue team that was mandated to work in synergy with the military to ensure the safe rescue of the abducted students.”

According to source, vice Principal of the school, Malam Zayyanu Take Tsaba is also among those abducted by the bandits.

Kaya is a town few kilometers to Maradun, the hometown of Zamfara Governor Bello Matawalle.

A source who was a former councilor told newsmen that four of his daughters are part of the students abducted by the bandits during the operation.

He said the bandits came to the school around 11:00am and cordoned the entire school before they started shooting sporadically.

Two students have reportedly sustained gunshots wound, while some of the students who were lucky escaped to the nearest bushes with some minor injuries.

This attack Is coming almost the same hour the Zamfara state governor, Bello Matawalle alongside members of his cabinet are holding special prayer session to seek divine intervention on the lingering security situation facing the state.
