Exclusive: How Kano businessman impregnated 14-year-old girl

A Kano-based businessman from Agadasawa quarters, Alhaji Ibrahim has allegedly impregnated his neighbour’s daughter, a JSS 3 student named Humaira Hussaini.
Speaking to Neptune Prime reporters yesterday at Agadasawa quarters, Humaira Hussaini narrated: “Alhaji Ibrahim called me to his house one day on grounds that he wanted to send me but when I entered his house, I discovered that his family was not at home. He locked the gate and gave me a drink to take, and threatened that if I don’t drink it, he will kill me.
“I accepted the drink, and after taking the drink I became weak and Alhaji Ibrahim took advantage of me and raped me”.

Humaira added that since then, she only saw her period once, and after some months she complained to her father, Hussaini Ado who took her to the hospital. At the hospital, her father was asked to go and prepare all the necessary items for delivery because she was already in labour and about to deliver.
When Neptune Prime asked her mother, Hajiya Rafa’atu Hussaini about the incident, she said she never suspected that her daughter was pregnant before now but after the baby was born, she confirmed that their neighbour, Alhaji Ibrahim is responsible.
However, when confronted, Alhaji Ibrahim insisted that they should go for a DNA test, which they did and the doctor confirmed that the baby was indeed his. The man still insisted on carrying out another DNA test and since then, he has been dodging the family, most times returning home very late and although the matter has been reported to the Police, it is not being given the needed attention, allegedly because he is using his wealth to kill the case.
Meanwhile, Humaira’s parents are calling on the Human Rights Groups, Human Rights Lawyers, NGO’s, community leaders, Kano HISBAH and the Press, to put pressure on the government to assist the girl.
