Some hoodlums suspected to be members of the outlawed group, the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), on Monday, set ablaze a vehicle conveying food items in Enugu State.

The vehicle was razed to enforce the Monday’s sit-at-home order to push for the release of its founder, Nnamdi Kanu, who is in the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS).

The vehicle, which was conveying tomatoes, vegetables and other foodstuff, was stopped and burnt at Edem junction, Ibeagwa in Enugu East Local Government Area of the state.

The vehicle was said to be returning from the Ugwogo end of the Opi-Enugu by-pass when it was attacked.

Sympathisers were said to have put a call to the State Fire Service, who eventually put out the fire.

“It’s a fairly huge loss which ought not to have occurred had our people reasoned very well before embarking on retrogressive actions such as this one,” Daily Trust quoted a resident of the state as saying.

Meanwhile, the Enugu police command said nobody has been arrested in connection with the incident, but investigation has commenced.

The governor advised the people to go about their legitimate businesses without fear of molestation.

He expressed sadness that some residents of the state are ignorantly obeying the order at the expense of their own existence.

He urged the people to go about their normal businesses, assuring that adequate security has been put in place to guarantee their safety.

While acknowledging the efforts of security agencies in the state towards securing lives and property, he enjoined them to put more effort and “go after all criminals, especially the kidnappers no matter where they are.”
