Many dead, others burnt beyond recognition in Bauchi fatal road accident
The Federal Road Safety Corps in Bauchi State has confirmed that three people were killed in the fatal crash that occurred Tuesday night close to the Muslim burial ground site.
Two people also sustained varying degrees of injuries in the crash involving two vehicles at Dungulbi village, about 10 kilometers from Bauchi metropolis.
The Sector Commander, FRSC, Bauchi State, Yusuf Abdullahi, disclosed while briefing newsmen on Wednesday.
He said that the crash involved a private vehicle, a Station Wagon Opel Vectra with number plate DSA-120 AA; and a Toyota Hiace commercial bus, Gombe Mass Transit with number plate GME-74 YX.
He stated that the crash was caused by a tyre burst which resulted in a head-on collision.
Abdullahi said, “The incident involving six male adults happened opposite the Muslim burial ground junction, yesterday [Tuesday] at about 8.32 pm. Immediately we got the information, we rushed to the scene within 26 minutes.

“The crash was caused by tyre burst and this was confirmed to our men by passengers who survived.
“The tyre burst led to the crash because when it happened, the driver lost control and then had a head-on collision with the other car in the opposite direction.
“The victims were rushed to the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital, Bauchi, for treatment. At the hospital, three of them were confirmed dead. Two others sustained varying degrees of injuries.
“The driver of the bus, who was trapped, died as a result of the fire and was unrecognizable; while two passengers in the other vehicle also died.”
He explained that the station wagon vehicle was not engulfed in the fire, while the Toyota Hiace bus caught fire on impact.
The FRSC boss said that the obstructions have been cleared, as the vehicles were handed over to the Motor Transport Department of the Nigerian Police Force.
Abdullahi advised drivers to avoid overspeeding, night travels, and other practices that put their lives and those of other road users and their properties at risk.
“We advise them to drive under full controlled speed, they should avoid overspeeding as far as the visibility during the rainy season is not too okay.
“They should ensure that their wipers are working properly. Our ember months campaign is to ‘avoid over-speeding and night travels, we advise motorists to avoid night journeys because it is always very dangerous.
“You see this accident, they engaged in night travels and they ran into each other and there was also a downpour. So, drivers should be more careful,” he admonished.
