Gov. Ganduje offers automatic employment to blind teacher

Story from Saleh INUWA/Shafa’atu DAUDA

Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje has directed that Dahiru Abdulhameed, a blind teacher who has been teaching voluntarily in many schools in Kano State, be given automatic employment.

A few days ago, Daily Trust Newspaper carried an in-depth interview with Dahiru, who stated that when the same paper did a special report on him after his NCE programme, Professor Uba Adamu Abdullahi called him and gave him a scholarship to go to National Open University Abuja for his Degree.

When he finished the course and did not secure a job, he decided to be teaching voluntarily in some schools. Daily Trust did a follow-up report on him, which, again, drew the attention of Professor Uba Adamu, who sent for him and bought him a new house where he lives with his mother.

The recent report by Daily Trust has attracted the attention of Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, who sent for him and directed the Kano State Commissioner of Education to employ him and post him to Tudun Maliki Special Education School.

The Governor described Dahiru Abdulhameed as a role model, for accepting to teach voluntarily, adding that even though he is blind, it did not stop him from achieving his goal in life.

Abdulhameed thanked the Governor, Daily Trust Newspaper and most importantly, Professor Abdullah Uba.
