Court restrains Emir of Kontagora pending suit by aggrieved princes

Niger state High Court has granted an interim injunction restraining the newly appointed Emir of Kontagora, Alhaji Mohammed Mu’azu Barau from parading himself as the 7th Emir of Kontagora.
Justice Abdullahi Mikhail granted the order in a motion filed by Barrister Mohammed Anache, on behalf of eight other aggrieved princes for the stool.

The Justice granted the order of the newly appointed Emir to stop parading himself as the 7th Emir pending the hearing and the determination of the plaintiff/ Applicant motion on notice.
“An order of interim injunction is hereby made and issued restraining the 1st respondent (Alhaji Muhammad Barau from parading himself as the 7th Sarkin Sudan of Kontagora by virtue of its selection, on the 19th day of September 2021, pending the hearing and determination of the plaintiff/ Applicants motion filed on the 11th of October 2021,” said the order.
The judge also restrained the five kingmakers from acting on the order of any other party in issuing a staff of office to the new Sarkin Sudan, Alhaji Mohammed Muazu Barau.
Similarly, “In the second prayer, an order of interim injunction is hereby made and issued restraining act the defendant/Respondent, their agents, privies claiming for parading to be installing the 1st defendants.
“They are also restrained from presenting a staff of office as the 7th Sarkin Sudan of Kontagora pending the hearing and determination of the plaintiff applications motion on the motion.”
It could be recalled that the new Emir of Kontagora, Alhaji Mohammed Mu’azu was presented with an appointment letter by the Niger state government on the 8th of October 2021.
The late Sarkin Sudan of Kontagora, Alhaji Saidu Namaska died after ruling for 47years.
