NSCDC parade 6 suspected kidnappers in Kogi

Kogi State Command of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, has paraded six suspected kidnappers in Lokoja, the state capital.

Parading the suspects at the state command headquarters in Lokoja, the State Commandant, Suleiman Mafara said the arrest was made possible by his men in conjunction with the Kogi State command of the Hunters Group of Nigeria.

According to him, the kidnappers who are between the ages of 15 and 20 years were believed to be Fulanis from Katsina and Niger states and have been terrorising inhabitants of Oshokoshoko, Obajana and Akpata Communities along Kabba road.

He explained that on receipt of complaints from families of victims about their nefarious activities of kidnapping for ransom and raping of women, security operatives swung into action and arrested them from their operational base in the forest.

The Commandant stated that one Mrs Rebecca Simon was abducted on the twentieth February and a ransom of two hundred thousand naira was paid by the husband before she regained her freedom, adding that another victim, James Peter was set free after parting with two hundred and thirty thousand naira to the kidnappers.

He said items recovered from the suspects include, Locally made pistol, four singlet bullets proof, two materials believed to be charms, rings, bangles, half bag of sesame and four litres of petroleum product.

Also paraded among the suspects was one
Olusola Abayomi, aged thirty-seven, from Yagba West who specialises in house breaking and theft at Shetima Area of Lokoja.

Items recovered from him were, fourty-two inches startimes plasma television, thirty-two inches sony television, gas cylinder, pumping machine, stabilizer, fan, assorted food items and a traveling bag containing clothings and shoes.

On interrogation, the suspects confessed to the crime.

The State Commandant said the suspects would be charged to Court after investigation

He also urged Kogi residents to always offer credible and timely information about the activities of criminals to law enforcement agents in order to rid the society of criminal elements.
