Jigawa Gov’t to launch Disability Trust Fund for women, children

Story from Dahiru SULEIMAN, Dutse

The Jigawa State Government has approved the launching and implementation of the Disability Trust Fund for Women, Children below the ages of five, as well as for the people living with disabilities across the state.

The government called on the Women Affairs Ministry to come forward with a work plan for the formal launching of the program in a week time.

Neptune Prime understands that if the programme is launched, women groups will continue to benefit from the social investment programme of the federal government in receiving the sum of N5,000 monthly as a social allowance, in addition to receiving free medical attention, alongside children below the ages of five, and accident victims under the Social Protection Bill.

Giving the order, the State Steering Committee Chairman of Social Protection Council, and also the Jigawa State Deputy Governor, Alhaji Umar Namadi, gave the directive at the end of the Social Protection Council Meeting chaired by him and other stakeholders in his office on Wednesday.

During the deliberations, the council directed for the onward payment of the proposed cash transfer for payment of outstanding monthly social allowance stipend dues from the months of October, directing that such payments should begin with those who are screened despite challenges of BVN faced by over 25 per cent beneficiaries.

Also, the council agreed that the challenge should not be allowed any further to cause a delay in the implementation of the proposed programme.

The stakeholders of the council with the combination of Coordinator of SOCU, Commissioner of Finance, Budget Directorate, Women Affairs Commissioner, among others are directed to summon the bank operation managers to discuss and uphold other adopted resolutions.

Other resolutions include letting Social Protection Bill be shared among the council members for final reading and amendment to be adopted and given approval in the next two weeks.

Similarly, the forum called for fruitful working synergies amongst stakeholders for effective implementation of the approved Bill for the betterment of all and sundry, warning emphasis should gear towards the affected target audience without any bias of any given selfish interest or motives from the stakeholders.
