Kano gov’t moves to depose Shekarau as Sardaunan Kano
Story from Saleh INUWA, Kano
The lingering political crises in Kano State is moving toward a dangerous dimension as the state governor Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje is allegedly facing serious pressure from his cabinet members to depose Senator Ibrahim Shekarau as the Sardauna of Kano state.
Malam Ibrahim Shekarau, the Senator representing Kano central, was appointed Sardauna of Kano by Late Dr. Ado Bayero in 2007, despite not being a member of any royal house.
Sources said Shekarau may have used his position as a close associate to the late Emir to get the appointment as the position has been vacant for awhile.
The 66 years old former Governor was born in Kurmawa quarters in 1965. Over the years, he has encountered some serious political crisis with the incumbent governor.
A source alleged that politicians who have intentions to contest for the governorship poll in 2023 are working hard to ensure that Shekarau did not reach 2023 as Senator or Sardauna of Kano.
Neptune Prime reports that the genesis of the political rift between the two citizens of Kano state, started recently when APC held its state congress, Ganduje supported Abdullahi Abbas while Shekarau and his group, comprising of Senator Barau Jibrin, Honourable Ibrahim Sha’aban Sharada, former Deputy Governor Hafiz Abubakar supported Ahmad Danzago.
After which close associates of the Governor gave Shekarau an ultimatum, to either accept Abdullahi Abbas or lose his position as Sardauna and also be recalled from the senate.
