Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and officials of the Nigerian Correctional Services (NCS) on Monday at the Supreme Court in Abuja engaged in a squabble after the embattled former Chairman of the defunct Pension Reform Task Team (PRTT), Mr Abdulrasheed Maina was sentenced to eight years in prison over money laundering.
The uneasy atmosphere started shortly after Justice Okon Abang read his judgment to the accused who was found guilty on all the 12-count charge the EFCC slammed on Maina and his company, Common Input Property and Investment Limited.

The NCS officials whose duty is to lead the accused out of the court room were unmannerly approached by operatives of the EFCC demanding that Maina must leave the premises with them for a rearrest which led to heated argument among officials of the two agencies.
However, the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reported that the ex-pension boss was finally taken away by the NCS officials.
“They said they have a warrant to rearrest him after he was just convicted.
“Our own stand is that the court just convicted him and if they need to rearrest him, they should come through the court.
“The court will give the directive for us to obey,” NAN quoting NCS officer.
The court also found Maina guilty of concealing his true identity as signatory to accounts opened in UBA and Fidelity Bank by using the identity of his family members without their knowledge.
These accounts were said to have cash deposits of N300 million, N500 million and N1.5 billion .
Therefore, monies running over a billion naira must be refunded to the Federal Government coffers, among others, also ordered that the companies used in the unlawful act be wound up.
