President Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday visited Maiduguri, the Borno State Capital, where he commissioned various projects.

There were doubts that Buhari would go ahead with trip, as three explosions rocked the city just a few hours before the president’s arrival.

The Commander-In-Chief, who carried on with his schedule as planned, commissioned an edifice donated by Mohammed Indimi to the University of Maiduguri and some projects executed by the Borno State Government including a 10km dual carriageway, a flyover, and a mega secondary school.

According to presidential aide Bashir Ahmad, the President will also receive first-hand reports from the Nigerian troops fighting Boko Haram terrorists in the Northeast region.

Meanwhile, five persons have been confirmed dead from bomb explosions suspected to have emanated from Boko Haram insurgents in Maiduguri ahead of the President’s visit.

A source in Ajilari cross in the Maiduguri metropolis who is simply named Maina Mohammed confirmed to newsmen that a bomb exploded very close to his house killing a lady and injuring two young boys.

“It dropped in my area. I am there right now. It killed an 18-year-old girl and injured two young boys,” he said.

Another source, Umar Tijani, said a bomb dropped at a mosque in Umaru Shehu Hospital but did not affect anybody while there was another explosion at 1,000 Housing and 707 Housing Estates within the Maiduguri metropolis.

“The bomb dropped at a mosque in Umaru Shehu Hospital but there was nobody in the hospital. There were also other bombs that dropped at the 707 and 1,000 Housing Estates. They destroyed houses in those estates and killed four people too,” Umar stated.

The explosions took place at the areas close to the Maiduguri airport and the Nigerian Air Force Base where the President landed ahead of a project inauguration visit to the capital city.
