Emulate LEADERSHIP by putting the country first, says Lai Mohammed
The Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Mr Boss Mustapha, has eulogised late Sam Nda-Isaiah as a man who did not die in vain.
Speaking at the first memorial in honour of the founding chairman of LEADERSHIP Newspapers, Sam Nda-Isaiah, he called the late publisher a selfless man who believed in the possibility of a better Nigeria.
Nda-Isaiah has walked on the sands of time to touch lives, uplift the down-trodden and provide comfort for those that had lost hope.

His death, according to the SGF was a big loss to Nigeria at large, saying his life was one of service, passion, doggedness and love for country.
“Sam’s life was a clear and resounding message, subtle in its delivery and profound with its impact. A message of service, passion, commitment, loyalty, doggedness, love for country and legacy.
“Sam gave meaning to the age-old truism that it is not how long but how well we live our lives that matters,” said Mustapha, who was the chairman of the memorial event.
Meanwhile, Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, has called on other media organisations in the country to borrow a leaf from the LEADERSHIP Newspapers Group by putting the interest of Nigeria first.
He said Sam’s passion for Nigeria did not wane despite losing the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential ticket to President Muhammadu Buhari in 2014.
“I want other newspapers to borrow a leaf from LEADERSHIP because LEADERSHIP Newspaper put country first before any interest. You hardly see LEADERSHIP sensationalise any story,” the Minister said.
He described the late Nda-Isaiah as a patriot who was interested in a united and peaceful Nigeria.
“He was always patriotic and ready to help in affairs of the state. His dream was for a united and peaceful Nigeria. Late Sam Nda-Isaiah will be happy that he is being remembered by those he called friends,” he said.
“Sam was a brother but above all Sam was a patriot. He loved Nigeria and believed in possibility. He did not participate on the sideline, he was one of the aspirants to fly the flag of the APC after the merger.
His passion for Nigeria never wane after losing the ticket to President Muhammadu Buhari.”
According to Alhaji Mohammed, late Nda-Isaiah used his medium to constructively criticise government but also believed that government needed support.
“I admire his willingness to do anything for Nigeria. I miss him a lot because he was a standing board for me,” Mohammed stated.
Late Nda-Isaiah’s memorial also availed panelists to discuss on ways the electoral system can be strengthened paving the way for free, fair and credible elections.
To achieve this, chairman and Editor-in-Chief of Thisday Media Group and Arise News Channel, Prince Nduka Obaigbena, has urged the executive of government as a matter of urgency to sign the signing of the Electoral Act (Amendment) Bill 2021 into law.
“We need to have a sound electoral process, where every vote counts.
“So I urged the Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, to ensure that the Electoral Bill be signed immediately and then we begin to look for leaders who will position our country for the next generations and the future of our nation,” Obaigbena stated.
Nda-Isaiah died on Friday, December 11, 2020 after a brief illness.
The event was chaired by Mr Boss Mustapha and attended by the First Lady, Mrs Aisha Buhari, family members, political allies, friends and staff of LEADERSHIP Newspapers Group.
