PWD in Jigawa calls for inclusion, participation in government’s scheme

Members of the People With Disability (PWD), Jigawa State Chapter, has called for inclusion and easy access to the proposed Social Trust Fund as well as to participate in the state government’s scheme of things.

The Chapter’s Chairman, Mohammed Usman disclosed this during an interactive session organised by officials of ACF, an NGO whose concern is to increase awareness of PWD, for them to associate themselves with stakeholders of Social Protection Council to better their living which holds at the NUT state secretariat in Dutse, the state’s capital.

“We are proud to announce that amongst us are educated and talented people of different disciplines and human endeavours who are capable of holding any government appointments.”

He commended Governor Badaru Abubakar for the speedy passage and approval of the Disability Trust Fund Bill into law which is aimed at catering for the well-being of the members, stressing that it will go a long way in uplifting our living standard.

“As the government intends to better our lives, we equally call upon it to as a matter of urgency give the education of our kids a special attention it deserves, so that collectively we would contribute to the growth and development of our state and the nation in general.”

Usman further said, “upon our population of 150,000 across Jigawa State, we call on the Jigawa state government to provide our wards with qualitative education and employment opportunities among other essential services for improvement and better living.”

He also commended Governor Badaru for approving the operational status of disability law aimed at bettering the general lives of members of persons with disability, saying “we’re indeed most grateful upon this feat, and hope for its smooth implementation for the betterment of our members.”

About nine personalities were honoured by the members of the PWD Association.

Those honoured include the Executive Chairman of Jigawa State Local Government Service Commission, DIG Uba Bala Ringim (rtd); Dutse and Kazaure Local Government Council Chairmen, Bala Usman Chamo and Mohammed Mahmud; Commissioner for Women Affairs, Hajiya Tatu Ringim; ES Rehabilitation Board, Alhaji Raba Kaya, among others.

In his remarks, on behalf of the awardees, DIG Uba Bala Ringim (rtd) thanked the association for the gesture and assured them of their continued support in promoting their activities at all times.

He advised Governor Badaru to assist the association in their stride in erecting a befitting secretariat in Dutse the state capital.

“I salute your courage in acquiring a piece of land for the erection of your own state secretariat.

“I enjoin members of the public especially the well-to-do in our midst to fully support this viable initiative through offering their generous contributions”, Ringim said.
