The National Working Committee of the All Progressive Congress (APC) has initiated moves to reconcile two warring factions of the party in Kano, led by Governor Abdullahi Ganduje and Senator Ibrahim Shekarau.

The Chairman, Caretaker Extra-Ordinary Convention Planning Committee of the APC and Yobe State Governor, Alhaji Mai Mala Buni as well as his Jigawa State counterpart, Alhaji Mohammed Badaru Abubakar yesterday held a meeting to reconcile the party factions in Abuja.

The meeting had in attendance Senator Ibrahim Shekarau, Senator Kabiru Ibrahim Gaya, former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, Member, representing Kano Municipal federal constituency, Shaaban Ibrahim Sharada and other APC stalwarts.

Recall that the APC in Kano is enmeshed in internal crisis, with two factions holding parallel wards, local government and state congresses.

An FCT high court presided by Justice Hamza Muazu late last year upheld the ward and local government congresses conducted by the Shekarau-led faction.

Dissatisfied with the outcome, the Ganduje-led faction appealed the case, seeking reversal of the lower court’s decision. The case is still pending at the appellate court.

One of the participants of the meeting who spoke with newsmen on the condition of anonymity said the party had vowed to do its best to avoid the recurrence of Zamfara APC crisis in Kano.

On the pending case at the court of appeal, the party leaders expressed displeasure over how the crisis led to a court case.

The insider said the party leaders avoided discussing the pending court case but said whatever the outcome of the case, each side needs one another to succeed in the election.

The meeting was then adjourned to Tuesday next week for further deliberations.

Speaking to newsmen after the reconciliatory meeting, Governor Badaru said the two factions have shown readiness to reconcile and work together with mutual respect for all.

Also, Mamman Mohammed, spokesman for the Yobe governor, said in a statement that the meeting was aimed at reconciling APC leaders in Kano.

“At the end of the meeting, the participants congratulated each other expressing satisfaction with the outcome of the meeting,”

“The meeting under the chairmanship of Governor Buni was part of measures taken by the party to reconcile aggrieved members ahead of the forthcoming national convention.

“The Buni committee is determined to resolve pending disputes to approach the convention with a more united front.
