Six months after abduction, 30 Yauri Students, 1 teacher regain freedom

30 students and a teacher of Federal Government College, Birnin Yauri, Kebbi State, have been released after six months in captivity, the state government has confirmed.

The bandits had attacked the school on Thursday, 17 June, 2021, abducting over 100 students and eight teachers from the College.

However, Malam Yahaya Sarki, the Special Adviser Media to Gov. Atiku Bagudu of Kebbi State, in a statement on Saturday confirmed that 30 more students and a teacher of the College have also been freed by the bandits in a statement in Birnin Kebbi, the Kebbi State capital.

Sarki said: “Today, Saturday 8th January 2022, 30 students of Federal Government College, Birnin Yauri, and one teacher have arrived Birnin Kebbi, Kebbi State capital, following their release.

“They shall undergo medical screening and support while being reunited with their families.

“We thank all security agencies and those who have helped in securing the release, while congratulating Mr President, Muhammadu Buhari, for the success.”

The bandits had released 30 of the students on October 21, 2021.

This is in addition to some of the students of FGC Yauri who were earlier released to their parents.

The marauding gunmen men stormed the FGC school Yauri around noon shooting sporadically.
