Stamp out crimes to justify your promotion – IGP urges newly elevated officers

The Inspector General of police, IGP Baba Alkali has charged newly decorated officers to justify their promotion by ensuring the security threats are curtailed in their area of operations.

The Inspector General of Police gave the charge on Monday in Lokoja, during the decoration ceremony of seven senior officers promoted to their next ranks.

The IG represented by the AIG Zone 8 Ede Ayuba, supported by the Commissioner of Police Edward Egbuka challenge the officers to justify the confidence repose in them that cause the promotion to bring down crimes and criminality in their jurisdiction.

He noted that the Police as an institution is key to internal security of the nation, hence, their call to duty is a sacrifice to render selfless service to fatherland.

He told the officers to see their promotions as encouragement for others to emulate them by giving their best in the fight against insecurity.

He advised them to cultivate more positive attitudes in all their conducts which, he said, is a reflection and a mirror that the society view the force.

The police boss warned them not to misuse their promotions as an instrument of victimisation, but rather, to use it for the enhancement of humanity.

Similarly, he commended the working Journalists in the state for their robust, responsible and accurate reportage about crimes, which has helped in drastic reduction of insecurity in the state.

In a remark, the Governor of Kogi State, Alhaji Yahaya Bello disclosed that the state has a long history of having crack and intelligent Commissioners of police, and assured the present CP Egbuka of cooperation and synergy to making him and other heads of security agencies to succeed in the state.

Represented by State Security Adviser, Commodore Jerry Omodara Rtd, he charged the officers to use the promotion to benefit their families and the society at large, thanking the IG, Police Service Commission (PSC), for finding seven officers from the command worthy of the elevation.

Meanwhile, the Chairman of NUJ kogi state Council, Alhaji Adeiza Momohjimoh congratulated the erstwhile Public Relations officer DSP William Aya, who was promoted from Deputy Superintendent of Police DSP to Superintendent of police SP for his cooperation in dishing out timely and relevant information to Journalists on demand.
