Nasarawa Gov. calls for caution as 2 indigenes vie for APC national chairmanship

Story from Ibraheem Hamza MUHAMMAD, Lafia

Nasarawa State Governor Engineer Abdullahi Sule has called for caution, urging friends, colleagues and political appointees to be circumspect while making comments regarding the contest involving two prominent leaders in the state.

Engineer Sule restated the call while being presented with the report of the APC Fact Finding and Reconciliation Committee at the government house on Monday.

According to the Governor, the call became necessary in order to keep the party in the state united.

He pointed out that while major stakeholders in the state have taken a position based on what was available, as well as his personal conviction, the state still has another strong contender who happens to be the first executive governor of the state.

Engineer Sule said since Senator Abdullahi Adamu is somebody who deserves respect, it’s better those in government say less in order not to overheat the polity.

“I have no regret whatsoever being able to say I am supporting Tanko Al-makura, and I still support him. But if God said it’s Abdullahi Adamu, he is also my father and our leader, I will give him all the maximum support. Because it’s only God who will decide who is the leader of the party,” he stated.

Commenting on the event, the Governor expressed satisfaction with the assignment undertaken by the committee which was chaired by Senator Salihu Hussaini Agyegbola, stressing that his administration made no mistake identifying the capacity and competences of members of the committee.

Engineer Sule commended the committee for not only identifying areas of concern regarding the party but went as far as resolving some of the challenges, especially in the wake of the party primaries, local government election, as well as the congresses at the ward, local government and state levels.

He was optimistic that the APC in Nasarawa State will continue to wax stronger, even as he reassured that like President Muhammadu Buhari shares the believe that no matter what happened to the party at the national level, Nasarawa will always remain an APC state.

The Governor noted that having underwent three major exercises consecutively namely the LG primaries, LG election and party congresses, much patience is required with the committee, while conducting its assignment not only for the state but also the party, which remains the biggest beneficiary.

“Yes, a lot of people might have been offended but the level of maturity and patience that were exhibited showed that we are one family,” he said.

Engineer Sule promised to fully implement the committee’s report for the benefit of the party.

He however directed the Secretary to the State Government, Barrister Muhammad Ubandoma Aliyu to liaise with the party to enable the committee call for further reconciliation meetings in Nasarawa Eggon and Akwanga, pledging to be physically present at the Akwanga parley.

Earlier, while presenting the report, chairman of the committee, Senator Salihu Hussaini Agyegbola, commended the Governor for constituting the committee to reconcile members of the APC, even though the state is lucky not to have witnessed same problems being experienced in other states.

While describing the committee’s work as all-encompassing, Senator Agyegbola was happy that his committee was able to reconcile certain groups.

“Though it is not possible, especially in politics, to satisfy everybody. There are some areas that requires the attention of the state working committee and you as the leader of party and government of the day, to put some things right,” he stated.
