NNPC hands over N400m edifice to Bayero University

The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) on Friday handed over a newly built edifice to house the Department of Civil Engineering, Bayero University Kano (BUK).

Mele Kyari, the Group Managing Director of NNPC said the company spent N400 million on the building.

According to him, the donation is part of NNPCs contribution to educational development in the country’s tertiary institutions.

Kyari, who was represented by Hajiya Aisha Farida Katagum, NNPC Group Executive Director, Corporate Services, said the building named NNPC Complex, epitomises the positive impact the company is making in strengthening the country’s educational institutions with key strategic infrastructure for better learning and productive research.

She said, “This project, the ‘NNPC Complex’ was initiated on the request of the University in 2018 with the scope of covering Engineering Design, Material Procurement and Construction.

“Facilities housed by this beautiful storey building include classrooms, offices, laboratories, lecture theatre, parking space, landscape, utilities and other ancillary services.

“Today, the NNPC Complex is practically completed, inspected by experts, and confirmed ready for immediate use,” Katagum added.

Speaking on behalf of the university management, BUK Vice-Chancellor, Professor Sagir Adamu Abbas, who was represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor Academics, Professor Sani Muhammad Gumel, thanked NNPC for the gesture, and called for increased collaboration in the areas of research and development.

The VC also said the new building will serve almost all other departments in Faculty of Engineering, saying that the commissioning day will forever remain in the university’s history.

Abbas also called on the company as well as other donors to help furnish the new department so that the institution could start using it as soon as possible.
