2023 Elections: Osinbajo’s declaration unsettles presidency

Story from Saleh INUWA, Kano

Monday’s declaration by Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo, to contest the primaries of his party the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the 2023 presidential race has unsettled and divided the presidency.

Even though the vice president said in his declaration speech that he had earlier informed the president before telling Nigerians, it was gathered that it came as a shock to those close to the president.

The aides of the president are confused because the president’s body language has never shown which candidate he would support, as such they will play their game according to the dictates of time. Similarly, the vice president who was an Attorney General in Lagos for 8 years and is now vice president for 7 years has mapped out plans to win the APC ticket during the primaries.

“Look things are not as easy as you think, the vice president has properly briefed the president at the weekend and the president listened to him carefully and wished him all the best. The presidency is doing everything possible to ensure that the declaration does not affect the progress of the administration, APC governors have already relocated to Abuja, to ensure things go well”.

Our correspondent also gathered from APC chieftains that with the nomination of Abdullahi Adamu from North Central as APC National Chairman, the presidency will come from the South with possibly a Christian. As such, the vice president stands a better chance to emerge. Recently, the president said he will not mention the name of who will succeed because they will kill him, that statement is not referring to Tinubu.
