As part of efforts to bring succour to inmates, a charity organisation in Gombe State known as ‘Gombe State Zakat & Waqf Foundation’ yesterday organised a Ramadan dinner otherwise called ‘Iftar’ to inmates in detention at the Gombe Correctional Centre.
Speaking during the iftar, the foundation’s team leader, Malam Abdullahi Abubakar Lamido,” explained that the feast was organised for the inmates in order to put smiles on their faces and give them sense of belonging.
He said the Zakat and Waqf Foundation organises Iftar annually to different needy groups in the state.
The foundation commended the officials and staff of the Nigerian Correctional Service for their efforts to rehabilitate inmates in their custodies.
“If not for the good work of the officers in the correctional center, the society would have been an unpleasant atmosphere for everybody”. He opined.
In his remarks, the welfare officer of the Gombe Correctional Center expressed appreciation to the foundation for remembering and identifying with the inmates in the fasting period.
He appealed for more interventions from well to do individuals and corporate organisations to the correctional centre.
