2023 Presidency: All PDP aspirants qualified to contest – Northern stakeholders

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) key stakeholders from the Northern states of Nigeria have debunked the claim through a statement by Dr Ango Abdullahi that the Northern Elders Forum has shortlisted a consensus PDP presidential aspirants.

The stakeholders in a communique signed by former governor Sule Lamido and Adamu Maina Waziri after a meeting held in Abuja on Monday maintained that all aspirants are qualified to occupy the Nigerian Presidency under the banner of PDP.

“We maintain that all our aspirants are qualified to occupy the Nigerian Presidency under the PDP banner and we shall continue to support, promote and campaign and win the presidency by the candidate produced by our national convention scheduled for May 28th – 29th 2022,” stated the communique.

The communique also made it clear that there is nothing called the Northern PDP, stating that “Our coming together as key stakeholders from the Northern states is to debunk any notion or impression which might have been created by Dr Ango Abdullahi about the Northern Elders Forum shortlisting a consensus PDP presidential candidates.

It further said “The People’s Democratic Party as conceived by our founding fathers is and remains the foremost national political platform wherein the democratic aspirations of its teeming members can be actualised devoid of any sectional consideration. Our Party is neither Northern nor Southern but Nigeria!”

The PDP stakeholders also commended the Northern Elders Forum for dissociating itself from Prof Ango’s press statement stating that it is his personal opinion.

The stakeholders also appealed to all aspirants to be more temperate in their utterances and work to promote harmony and better understanding within the PDP family.
