Nigerian soldier blows self up over alleged connection with Boko Haram

A Nigerian soldier, Jibrin, an instructor with Army Battalion in Geidam, who disappeared for about two days without permission was later seen fighting along with Boko Haram in Geidam.

Jibrin who was very popular with his colleagues and well-liked by his associates because of his known competence was sighted among the terrorists that attacked Geidam last Sunday, slaughtering nine civilians.

The battalion commander of his unit tracked his phone and he was found at a point in Gashua, hundreds of kilometres from his supposed duty post. The army authorities in Gashua were intimated and the soldiers spread their dragnets.

On Tuesday morning, L/Cpl Jibrin boarded a bus to Gombe and disguised himself but was identified and nabbed at the checkpoint in Gashua. He was handcuffed and on interrogation revealed so many things.

While returning to Geidam with soldiers that arrested him, Jibrin employed his skills as a weapon instructor, snatched a gun from one of his escorts, overpowered the other and blew himself up.

His revelations however led to the arrest of some of his terror brethren, while many are believed to be among the Nigerian troops in both Gombe and Yobe.
