Eight years after, my daughter yet to be released because we’re poor – Mother of kidnapped Chibok student

Popular Nigerian lawyer, journalist and media entrepreneur, Chude Jideonwo, invited the parent of one of the girls that got kidnapped by Boko Haram terrorists in Government Girls Secondary School at the town of Chibok in Borno State in 2014 to share their experience with Nigerians.

The kidnap happened in 2014 and eight years after all girls haven’t been released, though over 100 regained their freedom, but the daughter of the people that spoke to Chude was not among the girls that regained freedom from the terrorists.

The mother of the kidnapped girl cried during the interview saying their daughter has not been released because they are poor.

She said: “If they kidnap the children of big men within two or three days they would have been released, but because we are poor people, it is getting to eight years that our daughter has been kidnapped.

“It is not easy our daughter has been in that Sambisa forest for eight years now and we don’t even know whether she is alive or not, the government have not even called us for once to ask about how we feel about our kidnapped children, they just kept quiet.

“My senior brother called me that Boko Haram came to my daughter’s school and they kidnapped them, they kidnapped 50 or more students, some of the students were able to escape and the others were taken away and up till now there has been no solution.

“For three years we didn’t hear anything from the kidnapped children, but in 2017 the Boko Haram kidnappers released 22 children and the second time they released 82 children. Out of the 82 they released the second time our daughter wrote a diary and sent it to us and since then we knew that she is still alive.

“In the diary she sent to us, she wrote everything that happened since they were kidnapped in 2014, she said they are living a hard life there and they are also living in fear. She also told us to pray for her because it is not easy”.
