It was gathered that the police officer extorted the money from the corps member in the area after he arrested the corps member over an undisclosed reason while the incident was brought to the media space by some concerned Nigerians.
The case was brought to the attention of the police authorities by an online news medium, Connect Hub NG on its Twitter handle @HubNGR and following the outcry by Nigerians, the police, through its Force Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, began an investigation into the matter.
However, on Tuesday night, Adejobi, on his Twitter handle @Princemoye1 announced that the said ASP had been arrested in connection with the matter and he is currently being investigated over the incident.
According to the series of tweets by the Force PRO: “ASP Eyitere Joseph, in connection with this case, has been arrested in Lagos. He is being investigated and queried for further disciplinary actions.
“He is attached to the Meiran Division, and the DPO Meiran Division has been warned for the first time. If such happens again, he will be dealt with according to the provisions of the law. We will always act and deliver as expected. We have promised to name and shame.
“How would a father extort a corps member? Too bad and we condemn that in totality. Thanks.“
