The Reds were favoured in the 53rd minute by an own goal caused by Villarreal’s Pervis Estupinan who deflected Jordan Henderson’s cross beyond his keeper, Geronimo Rulli.

They continued with the push for a more solid victory which materialised two minutes after the first goal, this time around, Senegalese Sadio Mane made it 2-0 when he touched Mohamed Salah’s pass beyond Rulli.

Liverpool will surely do it they can to defend their lead next Tuesday for the return leg in Spain.
