Nasarawa Assembly confirms re-appointment of Ahmed Yakubu as IRS Chairman

The Nasarawa State House of Assembly (NSHA) has confirmed the re-appointment of  Ahmed Muhammad Yakubu as Chairman of the Nasarawa State Internal Revenue Service (IRS) and three members of the board.

Rt. Hon Ibrahim Balarabe Abdullahi, the Speaker of the House, announced the confirmation after their appearances during the House proceedings held on Monday in Lafia.

The Speaker said that the confirmation of the chairman and three other members followed their track records of achievements in their first tenure.

According to him, “We have confirmed the re-appointment of Ahmed Muhammed Yakubu as Chairman and Sabo Balarabe Usman, Hon. Emmanuel Zachariah and Ali Mohammed Doma as members of the Nasarawa State Board of Internal Revenue Service.

“The Chairman and members of the board have appeared here in the last four years for the same rituals.

“His Excellency, Governor Abdullahi Sule was satisfied with their performances and sent their names for screening and possible confirmation.

“I have also received reports from House Committee on Finance and Appropriation over their good performances.

“Their performances are indeed wonderful as no committee of the House have found them wanting in the discharge of their duties.

“Their performances speak volumes, that was why His Excellency re-appointed all of them for another tenure,” he said.

The Speaker urged the chairman and members of the board to continue to work in synergy in order to take the board forward and generate more revenue for the coffer of the state government.

“For us as Assembly, we shall continue to give them encouragement so that the board’s name will be written in gold in terms of revenue generation,” he added.

Earlier, the Majority Leader of the House, Hon. Umar Tanko Tunga (APC-Awe North), moved a motion for the confirmation of the nominees.

The Minority Leader of the House, Hon. Abel Bala (PDP-Nassarawa Eggon West), seconded the motion.

The House unanimously screened and confirmed the nominees.

The Speaker then directed the clerk of the House to communicate the House resolution to Governor Sule for necessary action.

On April 7, 2022, Governor Abdullahi Sule sent the name of Ahmed Muhammed Yakubu as Chairman and Sabo Balarabe Usman, Hon Emmanuel Zachariah and Ali Mohammed Doma as members of the Nasarawa State Board of Internal Revenue Service.
