NMCO DG tasks staff on code of conduct
Story from Abah ADAH, Abuja
The director general (DG) of the Nigerian Mining Cadastre Office (NMCO), Engr Obadiah Nkom, has charged members of staff of the office and public servants in general to endeavour to stay safe during and after their service years by adhering strictly to the Code of Conducts and due diligence in carrying out their official assignments.
Nkom gave the charge in his office in Abuja while receiving an Award of Excellence presented to him by the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB).
The NMCO boss who dedicated the award to the entire staff of the office warned the staff against non-compliance, saying it is the shortest way to prison.
“Non-compliance to code of conduct is the shortest way to prison,” Nkom said.
According to him, being a licencing agent, NMCO has a lot to do with CCB as “every component of licencing involves an aspect of the Code of Conduct, and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
According to the DG, he was only doing his work according to his conscience based on the ethics of public service, not that he had any award in mind.
He challenged the workers to endeavour to live up to expectation.

Speaking earlier, the Code of conduct Bureau Chairman, Prof. Isah Mohammed who was represented by another board member, Prof. Samuel Ogundare, said the move was in fulfillment of the bureau’s “responsibility of establishing and maintained a high level of public service morality in the discharge of government business and to ensure that all actions and behaviour of public officers conform to the highest level of morality and accountability.
Prof. Mohammed said the award was a reflection of the DG’s hard work and self-less service to the nation, urging the staff to always be cautious of the code.
The high point was the presentation of the award to Engr Nkom by the CCB Chairman.
