Terrorists burn school’s staff quarters, kill police officer, 12 others in Yobe

Story from Saadatu MAINA, Damaturu

No fewer than 12 people have lost their lives including a female police officer after Boko Haram terrorists attacked Geidam, a town in Damaturu, the capital city of Yobe State.

Confirming the incident to newsmen, Yobe State police public relations officer, Dungus Abdulkareem, said one of the victims of the attack was a retired policeman.

Residents say the insurgents attacked a popular bar in the town around 10 p.m and burned the staff quarters of the nearby Government Science and Technical College Geidam.

They said the terrorists sneaked into the town on Wednesday night without firing a single shot.
The gunmen later targeted ‘Kwari’, a popular brothel in Geidam, where they slaughtered 10 persons, (8) eight men and(2) two women.
“They took us by surprise this time around; they entered in silence without firing shots or using vehicles.”
“Upon their entrance, they asked some of the residents to recite verses of the Qur’an before they either allowed them leave or get killed.”
Meanwhile, some residents are currently fleeing the town to avoid being trapped as was the case last year when the insurgents spent days in the community.

Other victims of the attack are being hospitalised at the Geidam General Hospitals for various injuries.

A security source who does not want to be mentioned because they have no authorisation to speak with the press on the matter said the insurgents arrived on motorcycles at the outskirts of the town and entered the town on foot and went straight to the bar to unleash mayhem on it occupants.

“They came by foot and burnt three staff quarters at the GSTC Geidam. We also got reports that they went to Augwar Kweri where some prostitutes are residing and kill 11 people there. At GSTC, I understand that only one person died,” said Idris Abubakar, a resident of the town.
