Neptune Prime Media Workshop: Stakeholders urge committed journalism for speedy development of region

Stakeholders at the 2-day media workshop organised by Neptune Prime, a publication outlet of Neptune Network Nig. Ltd for its North-East state correspondents in Abuja spoke on the need for dedicated professional journalism that would facilitate speedy recovery and development of the region.
Present at the event was the Neptune Prime Editorial Board Chairman, Professor MK Othman, and media experts from various organisations such as: Hamza Idris, Editor, Daily Trust newspaper, Yushua Shuaib, CEO, PRNigeria, Dr Saleh Maina, Lecturer, BUK Kano, amongst others.

Hamza Idris who spoke on the essential reporting tools, equipment and skills in conflict and high risk regions stated media practitioners are key holders, and by global standards, all the six regions of Nigeria (North East, North West, North Central, South East, South West and South South) are high risk areas, so journalists must have passion for the job and a reservoir of contacts to enable them carry out their work efficiently.
Yushua Shuaib represented by Mohammed Dahiru Lawal, spoke on fact checking tools, data gathering and reporting as media tools in conflict regions said journalists should be able to understand and identify information disorder while being equipped with basic media monitoring, search engine optimization, investigation and fact checking techniques and tools to verify contents for accurate reportage.
Maina who spoke on how to produce investigative and developmental stories to elicit humanitarian aid as well as trigger government and private intervention in the North East stated the methods of gathering quality stories as opinion polls, research, interviews.
