Some of the delegates and the number of delegates include the Federal Capital Territory – 6, Niger – 25, Kano – 44; Kaduna – 23, Kastina – 24, Kebbi – 21, and Zamfara -12, among others.

Meanwhile one of the presidential aspirants and serving Governor of Sokoto state Aminu Tambuwal has withdrawn from the race.

Gov. Tambuwal while addressing the party supporters moments before the commencement of accreditation of delegates said he decided to sacrifice his ambition for the unity of the party as well as the progress of the nation.

“After wide consultations with PDP members across the length and breath of Nigeria, I have come to the conclusion that in order to foster unity amongst party members whose ultimate aim is to see a nation that works for everyone, I have decided to step down for Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, Turakin Adamawa,” he said in his address.

Tambuwal’s decision comes days after two other aspirants withdrew from the race.

Former Anambra state Governor Peter Obi had on Thursday dumped the party citing reasons bothering on morality. He has since moved to the Labour party.

Astute banker and economist Mohammed Hayatudeen had also stepped down, claiming the process had been “obscenely monetized”.
