Senator Yusuf Baba-Ahmed secures license to establish Baba-Ahmed University in Kano

The founder of Baze University, Abuja, Senator Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed, has secured another license to establish Baba-Ahmed University, Kano (BAUK).

This was contained in a Facebook post by the elder brother of the founder of the University, Dr. Hakeem Baba-Ahmed.

According to him, “My younger brother, Senator Datti Yusuf Baba-Ahmed, (Ph.D.) has just secured a second license for a private university in Kano.

“Against many odds, he built a leading private university in Abuja a decade ago, Baze University. The new one is Baba-Ahmed University, Kano.” He said.

Dr Hakeem prayed for the success of the new Baba-Ahmed University and for the emergence of good honest people who will move the North and Nigeria out of its current desperate situation.

Baba-Ahmed said that he is optimistic that both the universities would live up to the standards in scholarship and service set by the late Alhaji Baba-Ahmad of Zaria.

Senator Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed has been a member of the House of Representatives and later a Senator. He is presently aspiring to contest for Governor of Kaduna State on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

It could be recalled that the dynasty of the family was founded by the legendary scholar and teacher, Shiekh Baba-Ahmed, who lived an exemplary life in Zaria, living behind a large family with a diverse backgrounds in the society.

Similarly, the Federal Executive Council (FEC) approved the establishment of 12 private universities in various states of the country.

Lai Mohammed, the Minister of Information and Culture, disclosed this after the meeting of the Council presided over by President Muhammadu Buhari, at the Presidential Villa, Abuja that the Ministry of Education had presented a memo seeking provisional licenses for the establishment of 12 proposed private universities, on behalf of the National Universities Commission, ( NUC)

The Minister said, “Each university that will get a provisional license will be mentored by older universities.”

The private universities are Baba Ahmed University Kano State, which also got approval, is to be mentored by Bayero University Kano, PEN Resource University, Gombe, Gombe State to be mentored by Modibbo Adamawa University of Technology, Yola; Al-Ansar University, Maiduguri, Borno State to be mentored by the University of Maiduguri; Margaret Lawrence University, Galilee, Delta State to be mentored by Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Anambra State.

Others include the Khalifa Isiyaku Rabiu University, Kano, Kano State to be mentored by Bayero University Kano, Kano State; Sports University, Idumuje, Ugboko, Delta State to be mentored by the University of Benin, Edo State.

Similarly, SAISA University of Medical Sciences and Technology, Sokoto, Sokoto State to be mentored by Usmanu Danfodio Sokoto.

Others are Nigerian British University, Asa, Abia State to be mentored by the University of Port Harcourt; Peter University, Achina-Onneh, Anambra State to be mentored by Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka; Newgate University, Minna, Niger State to be mentored by Federal University Minna, Niger State; European University of Nigeria, Duboyi, Abuja, FCT, to be mentored by University of Abuja, FCT; and
North West University, Sokoto, Sokoto State to be mentored by Usmanu Danfodio University, Sokoto.
