Taraba gov’t withdraws recruitment list due to lopsidedness

Story from Ahmed USMAN, Jalingo

The Taraba State Government has directed the withdrawal of list published by the State Civil Service Commission on the recent appointment into state civil service.

Last week, the Taraba State Civil Service Commission released the list of successful candidates of the recruitment interview held at the end of last year and early this year.

However, the list has raised eyebrows due to complaints from Muslims in the state who felt they have been discriminated against. This is because out of the 1,272 successful candidates, only 179 are Muslims while the remaining 1,093 are Christians.

In a statement signed by the Secretary to the Taraba State Government, Anthony Jellason and made available to newsmen in Jalingo, the government says it has observed lopsidedness in the list released and published by the State Civil Service Commission on the recent appointments into the state civil service.

The statement adds that the state government has directed the suspension of the earlier directive given to candidates to come and collect their appointment letters.
