2023 Presidency: Real reason why Atiku chose Okowa as running mate revealed

Delta State Governor Ifeanyi Okowa has emerged as running mate to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar in the coming 2023 elections.

Atiku made the announcement at a meeting attended by PDP executives at the party’s headquarters in Abuja.

This was after a 17-member committee was set up by the party to pick a running mate.

Speaking at the announcement event, Atiku pointed out some qualities he looked out for in selecting his runner up to include someone who understands the enormity of the challenges facing the country and one who has demonstrated, from experience, that he can proffer some solutions.

He said he looked out for one who has the qualities of a president, who can stand in for him when he’s not around.

However, speculations have it that Atiku preferred to choose a South-Southerner as running mate against a South-Westerner or South-Easterner in order to amass more votes. This is because majority of the people from the South-West tends to support the APC presidential candidate, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu while the Easterners might vote for the Labour Party candidate, Peter Obi or APGA’s candidate, Professor Peter Umeadi.

According to a comment by one of the speculators, “Nigeria’s politics has become a total shamble and an ethnic affair where every tribe wants his person to be on sit in order to get favours.”

Commenting prior to the development, Niger Delta Rights Assembly (NDRA) President, Chief Israel Bokromo, said Okowa would be a unifier and nationalist as it is what Nigeria desires at this time.

Bokromo said that Okowa had connected with the people through infrastructure development, reliable healthcare delivery, quality education, restoration of the state’s sporting glory and youth empowerment programmes.
