It is no longer news that most governors after serving for eight years in their states would find a means to remain relevant in politics by opting to contest for a seat in the Senate or the lower chamber – House of Representatives, in some cases they get lucky for a ministerial appointment.
The case is not far fetched for the likes of Adams Oshiomole, a former governor of Edo State whom, after successfully completing his eight-year tenure from 2008 to 2016 will be going to the senate next year if elected.

Recall that Oshiomole, who was once a former labour leader from 1999 to 2007 was the Chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) but did not successfully complete his tenure – he was booted out of office in less than two years.
Another prominent personality in the APC is the current Governor of Plateau State, Simon Lalong. He is among the list of candidates in the APC who will be going to the senate if elected.
Others include: Godswill Akpabio, the current minister of Niger Delta Affairs and former governor of Akwa Ibom State who will be returning to the senate for the second time after his reign from 2015 to 2019.
Akpabio, despite claim by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Resident Electoral Commissioner for the state, Mike Igini that Akpabio isn’t a candidate of the party, the former Governor’s name made the list as the candidate of the APC for Akwa Ibom North-West District.
Also, Senate President, Ahmed Lawan made the list as the candidate of the party for Yobe North senatorial district. Lawan had lost the presidential ticket to Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the person that won the ticket, Bashir Mechina refused to step down.
Also, the former governor of Abia State, Orji Uzor Kalu; Ebonyi State Governor, David Umahi and Kebbi State Governor, Abubakar Atiku Bagudu.
