Argentina beat Italy to lift Finalissima trophy

South American football power house, Argentina Wednesday night defeated Europe’s champions, Italy 3-0 at Wembley in the Finalissima – a renewal of the contest between the champions of Europe and South America.

Star studded Argentina with the likes of Lionel Messi, Angel Di Maria, Paulo Dybala and Lautaro Martinez where on the field of play to help Argentina secure the victory after the Copa America last year.

Argentina found the back of the net after Messi’s run and cross set up the opener for Martinez in the 28th minute.

Martinez just before the whistle for the break provider a pass for Di Maria to chip a second in the 45 + added time.

Substitute Dybala rounded off the match in injury time sealing the victory for Argentina.

Italian defender Giorgio Chiellini played the first half of what was his 118th and final international match.

The contest is the first between the two continental champions in 29 years.

It is a revival of the Artemio Franchi Cup, competed for twice before – in 1985, when France beat Uruguay and in 1993, when Argentina beat Denmark on penalties.
