Nigeria’s Super Eagles under helmsman, Jose Peseiro recorded their first victory beating Sierra Leone 2-1 in the first leg of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifying match at the Moshood Abiola Stadium, Abuja.

The match which started on a high note saw the visitors finding the back of the net early in the first 45 minutes courtesy Sahr Jonathan Morsay (11′) receiving a pass from Musa Noah KamaraThe Eagles knowing the kind of opponent they were up against reduced the deficit by equalising five minutes later in the 16th minute with Everton star, Alexander Iwobi who was assisted Moses Simon made it 1-1 bringing relief to the team.
The star studded Eagles in their quest for victory added another goal just four minutes before the break with Napoli sensation, Victor Osimhen, who was absent in the previous friendly matches with Mexico and Ecuador respectively sealed the victory for the day making it the first victory Peseiro since he took over in May as the new head coach.
Nigeria is currently second in Group A sharing the same point (three) with Guinea-Bissau who are top with a three-goal margin after defeating Sao Tome and Principe.
Nigeria’s next encounter will be on Monday, June 13, 2022 as they travel to the Island of Sao Tome and Principe.
