NSCDC to collaborate with NGO on community policing in Gombe
Story from Najibullahi ADAMU, Gombe
The Gombe State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC) has promised to collaborate with a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) known as ‘Searchlight Initiative for Community Peace Advocacy and Rural Development in Nigeria’ to promote community policing in the state.
The state Civil Defense Commandant Waziri Baba Goni made the promise yesterday when the officials of the NGO paid him a courtesy visit in his office.
He said with the contribution of private security organizations, Nigeria can curtail the menace of criminals who pose security threats to the nation.

According to him, community policing helps in averting crimes as good samaritans from communities can inform the security agencies of suspicious activities and the appearance of suspected criminals.
Waziri Baba Goni who opined that the number of security agents in the country is not commensurate to the increasing population said establishing private security outfits can complement them.
“We should work together to achieve the same goal towards sanitizing and securing our country”, he advised.
The Commandant also promised to train the members of the NGO as private detectives so that they would help them in information gathering.
