Nigeria’s senior football team, the Super Eagles, in the early hours of Friday suffered a second defeat under the new head coach, Jose Peseiro, after losing 0-1 to Ecuador in an international friendly.

The Eagles despite with favorites including Alex, Iwobi, Joe Aribo, Moses Simon, Emmanuel Ajayi, among others failed to soar above the Ecuadorian national team at the Red Bull Arena, New Jersey.

Their first outing under the new helmsman was on Sunday and they played 1-2 to Mexico. The country’s only goal from that encounter was from Cyriel Bassey Dessers who plays his professional football with Rangers in the Scottish Premier League.

Peseiro was reconsidered and appointed by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) in May replacing Augustine Eguavoen following the team’s failure to advance to the next stage in the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in January.

The friendlies were perhaps used as a test ahead of the qualifying matches for next year’s edition of AFCON when there will be more intensity on the field of play from one of West African football power houses.

  1. it’s obvious that Super Eagles problem is not from technical crew or changing of head coach. The problem lies on the players and at large on NFF, who at every little thing quickly fires the serving coach who has gone far in blending the players
