Buhari congratulates Tobi Amusan for breaking world record in 100m hurdle

Nigeria’s President, Muhammadu Buhari, has congratulated athlete Tobi Amusan, for wining a gold medal in 100m hurdles at the World Athletics Championships in Oregon, United States.

Amusan smashed the world record in the semi-final where she clocked 12.12sec, and went on to clock 12.06sec in the final.

The president in a tweet on Monday morning joined millions of Nigerians to celebrate Amusan on her performance at the event.

Also, the president commented another athlete, Ese Brume, for wining a silver medal in the women’s long jump event.

“I join millions of Nigerians in celebrating Tobi Amusan and her stellar performance, at the World Athletics Championships 2022. Her new World Record and Gold Medal have brought excitement and joy and hope to all of us, and made our national anthem resonate on a global stage.

“I also commend and celebrate Ese Brume for her long jump Silver Medal. #TeamNigeria have represented us with honour & pride; displaying courage, integrity and good sportsmanship, and proving that with hard work & determination, success is achievable. #WorldAthleticsChampionships,” the president tweeted.

Meanwhile, Amusan goes home with USD100,000 in prize money.
