Commonwealth Games 2022: Nigeria breaks another record in weightlifting

Nigerian athlete, Folashade Lawal Rafiatu, on Sunday won a second gold medal for the country at the ongoing Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.

Rafiatu set a new Commonwealth record with 206kg in the Women’s 59kg event.

Nigeria’s first gold at the games was won by Adijat Adenike Olarinoye on Saturday where she competed in the women’s 55kg.

Adijat lifted 92kg in the snatch, and 111kg in clean and jerk, for a total of 203kg.

Nigeria is eighth on the medals table with two gold and one bronze totalling three medals.

Australia tops medals chart with 18 gold, 10 silver and 15 bronze medals while hosts, England are third on the chart with 10 gold, 16 silver and six bronze medals as at the time of this report.
