Disaster Management: NEMA makes Gov. Buni Ambassador

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) on Monday decorated Yobe state Governor, His Excellency Hon. Mai Mala Buni, as its ambassador in Disaster Management, in recognition of his government’s efficient and timely response to disaster.
Governor Buni was decorated at the National Headquarters of the Agency when he paid a working visit to the agency to solicit support for victims of flood disasters in the state.
The governor said the Yobe state government needed the support of the agency because of the massive damage suffered by the affected communities across the state.
He explained that many houses, farmlands, and livestock were lost to the floods.

Similarly, the road linking some local government areas were washed away by the flood.
“I have directed the State Emergency Management Agency to provide immediate support to the victims however, we need your support to resettle the victims,” he said.
Governor Buni solicited the support of the Agency to provide succour to make life more meaningful for the victims.
The Director-General of the Agency, Mustapha Habib Ahmed, assured that NEMA would partner with the state government to support the victims and complement the efforts of the state government.
He commended the Yobe state government for the efficient and unparalleled response to disaster management.
“Let me state without fear of contradiction that the Yobe state government is a pacesetter in disaster management in the country.
“Your State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) is exceptionally doing well in providing succour to victims of disaster and this makes us very proud.
He said staff of the agency have already been drafted to the affected communities.
Recall that several communities under the Gulani local government area of the state were ravaged by flood, forcing residents to flee their homes. The flood was caused by river overflow following a persistent rainfall on Sunday which lasted for more than 14 hours across many locations in the state.
