Suspected Boko Haram terrorists attack Borno, abduct several passengers

Damari town in Kazage ward in Birnin-Gwari Local Government Area of Kaduna State on Wednesday came under bandit’s attack while Ansaru terrorists were giving a lecture.

With no visible security presence, residents were at the mercy of the bandits during the attack which lasted for about an hour.

It was gathered that the attack took place around 5:00pm.

Ishaq Usman Kasai, Chairman, Birnin-Gwari Emirate Progressive Union, who confirmed the attack in a statement issued on Friday said, “On hearing the sporadic gunshots from the bandits, the Ansaru members moved towards them and started exchanging fire.

‘’They clashed for about an hour and the Ansaru members who were also heavily armed overpowered the bandits which made them to retreat and run away,” Kasai said.

It was learnt that during the clash, some damages were made to the town – burning of a shops, destruction of vehicles and a private hospital.

Two locals were also killed by the armed bandits on their way from farm while the bandits were running into the forest.

Aftermath the attack, most of the community members appreciated and applauded the Ansaru members for defending the town from the bandit’s attack which they believe that the situation could have been more damaging.

As a result of the attack, hundreds of persons including women and children have left the town.

According to the statement, the attack was a coordinated one because the bandits knew that the Ansaru members are covering the town. Hence, it was countered.

However, the casualty figure between the armed bandits and the Ansaru members could not be ascertain as at the time of this report.

‘’The Ansaru members continue to preach and administered Shari’a justice to locals and also advise them to acquire arms to defend themselves against enemies as well as fight government in order to establish what they refer to as Islamic State,” Kasai added.

The Kaduna Police is yet to comment on the situation.
