Kaduna-Abuja Train Attack: Three abductees released as relatives stage protest in Abuja
Three victims of the Kaduna-Abuja train attack have regained freedom from captivity.
With their release, there are now 40 passengers in bandits’ custody.
Bandits had on Sunday, flogged the 43 victims, and threatened to Kidnap President Muhammad Buhari and Kaduna Governor Nasir El-Rufai.
This led to a serious protest on Monday in Abuja by the relatives of the kidnapped victims as they besieged the headquarters of the Ministry of Transportation in the capital city demanding the immediate release of their loved ones.
The three victims released, two males and a female may have been among those who received serious beating on Sunday.
They were, however, released around 11 am Monday morning, and their relatives picked them up along the Kaduna-Abuja road.
Although it was not immediately confirmed at the time of filing this report if a ransom was paid, it was, however, learned that 40 victims are still with kidnappers in the forest
During the protest, the relatives came in their number carrying placards with different inscriptions, preventing civil servants of the ministry from gaining access to their offices. “Relatives of kidnapped victims are pleading to Mr President for urgent help,” the caption on a placard borne by a protester read.
Many of the protesters who were women sat on the floor at their point of convergence at the ministry.
The protesters, who arrived at the place at about 9 a.m. on Monday, remained there until about 2 p.m. when they left.
A spokesperson for the protesters, Ahmed Aruwa, told Channels Television that they would continue to block the entrance of the Ministry of Transportation until they get a definite response from the government.
