Magistrate Court remands 20-year-old man for raping minor in Katsina
Magistrate Fadile Dikko has ordered the remands of a 20-year-old man, Auwalu Lado, at the Katsina State Correctional Centre for allegedly raping a nine-year-old girl and escaping from police custody after arrest.
Lado would be at the Correctional Centre until 28 July 2022.
According to the police, trouble started for Lado on 25th May 2022, when he was arrested for alleged rape.
The police prosecutor, Inspector Lawal Bello, told the Senior Magistrate Court, where Lado was arraigned on Tuesday, that on the said day, the accused allegedly ambushed a nine-year-old girl along a bush path and allegedly forcefully had carnal knowledge of her.
He, however, was subsequently arrested.
The police prosecutor further revealed that on the 3rd of June 2022, while the police were recording Lado’s statement, he escaped from the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department before he was re-arrested.
The police have consequently slammed two charges against Lado.
The police prosecutor revealed that the two charges were rape, which he said, was “contrary to section 254, Katsina State penal code law, 2021; and escape from lawful custody contrary to section 46, Katsina State penal code law, 2021.”
The police prosecutor told the court that investigation was still in progress on the two charges, the development which he said, made him request a new date when Lado’s case could come up for mention before the magistrate.
The presiding magistrate granted the request and adjourned the case till 28 July 2022 for mention.
