African clubs rarely have the opportunity to play against their European counterparts due to the high standards of the FIFA Club World Cup which limits number of clubs to participate in the competition from the continent of Africa.

But another way clubs can square up against European clubs is friendly matches. And such a friendly match happened years back, involving two of the most successful football clubs in the world.
On 5 August 2001, Egyptian club Al Ahly stunned Spanish La Liga side Real Madrid with a 1-0 victory in a friendly game at the Cairo Stadium in Egypt.
Madrid paraded their star players like Zinedine Zidane, Luis Figo, Raul, Ivan Helguera, Claude Makelele and Roberto Carlos in their starting lineup.
Nigerian player Sunday Chibuike scored the only goal of the game, as the Egyptian side recorded a famous win over the Spanish giants.
